Yeah, I don't think I've ever watched a porn from beginning to end, at least not witout a lot of fast forwarding.
But saying ALL porn now is trashy and that it was SO much better back in the day is a generalization. There is a wide spectrum of quality and style from both eras. Yeah some porn today is shot on a cheap videocamera from the first person, but some is obvioulsy a lot higher budget.
I was watching Eternity which is supposed to be set in days of yore. It looks silly seeing pornstars with tattoos and piercings nailing each other wearing condoms even thought it supposed to be set in the 1800's but you could see they doled out some serious coin for sets/costumes and even some semblance of a script etc. But to me that's all superfluous.
Yeah most companies don't use film anymore, but minidv tapes give better than dvd quality and if I'm watching it on my tv, film really makes no difference.
