s's is possessive, Ss is plural for the letter S

In the same way *s would be plural for * and *'s would denote ownership. Seeing as the * doesn't possess anything in the case of my post, the ' would be incorrect.

Not that I think it's right. Why can't *s possess anything? Maybe they should unionize. :unsure:

I know THAT much about grammar. The reason I use s's instead of ss on here is for clarity. pm's become pms when you use correct form and that just opens a whole new can of worms. Oh yeah, and also I use it to propagate my priceless brand of humour :lol:

I'm all for being clear, and your PM example is perfect... but I would write PMs. Does it look like that would open up a can of worms? But you're right. Clarity is the most important thing.. It's just that I used to be a court reporter and there's certain things I can't let go of. for 7 solid years, maybe even more, I had to strive for perfect grammar. I obviously have let go of a lot of pickiness for time's sake, but like I said, there's just certain things I can't let go of.
