I feel your standard cuss words have become tired and old and almost ineffective. So in a bid to gain that elusive shock factor I have taken to combining 2 or more swears into one word.
Just think about it... it is just a descriptive word. How big was it? It was big. It was fucking big. You can see the difference... even with this: It was really big. It was fucking big. I still get the impression that the fucking big thing was even bigger than the really big thing.
And the again you can just fuck off... back the fuck away... it has so many uses.

We Brit's just don't seem able to use that kind of language so freely, it still seems really offensive over here, but then most of us still seem to apologise if we complain about something! 'Damn' and 'Blast' are` probably more likely to be heared!! Just dosen't sound as good and strong as 'fuck' does it?! Having said that 'Bollocks' is becoming a favorite of mine, very versatile!
A combination of cussing and blasphemy seems to work well! - Jesus suffering Fuck being an appropriate reply to shocking news or pain not so sure about uisng this in the bible belt though!
