There are, unfortunately, many more instances of Top Melon threadees shying away from participation for whatever reason than actively participating. Several times I have started threads after securing, what I thought, was the goodwill of the threadee only to have the thread fall flat after a few of my colleagues jumped in and commented.

If we are to have Top Melon threads, we need to follow
Misschickie's advice and just continue to be patient and not let failure and rejection
bum us out too much.
